A year in review with our founder

It has been a truly incredible year for us here at Sexy Socks, and a year of great growth too. Today, Dave Hutchison, Founder of Sexy Socks, reflects on the highlights of 2019 and what he is looking forward to most in the new year.

What were the highlights of 2019?

  • Edging ever closer to the milestone of 100 000 pairs of school socks donated, and working with various wonderful organisations along the way who are also on a mission to make South Africa a better place. There are so many people running incredible projects, and I love that we can become a part of their story too.
  • Launching our Out of Africa range, and seeing the hugely positive response from our customers.
  • Spreading our wings and gaining traction in Namibia, and most recently, Australia!
  • Expanding our offering to include a cotton range with a host of epic designs.

What was the most important lesson you learnt in 2019?

On the whole, everyone wants to make a difference. If you can tell them what you are doing, tell them why it is important, and ask them for help, nine times out of ten they will go above and beyond to get on board and help you.

If you had to describe 2019 in three words, what would they be?

Bold. Humbling. Exhilarating.

Give us the low down on the 2019 sock drops…

This year our sock drops have taken place everywhere from Groendal to Capricorn. The sock drops are always special as they remind us why we do what we do. There is so much potential in our country, and the excitement on the kids’ faces never gets old. The message we tried to get across this year was ‘What can you do everyday to make your community, and ultimately, South Africa, a better place?’. Every little bit of effort can make our country a better place, no matter how small. We have also worked closely this year with Santa’s Shoebox, Rubi’s Rainbow of Hope, Aaron’s Rock Your Socks, and Odd Socks to share school socks far and wide!

What are you most looking forward to in 2020?

We look forward to introducing many new people from many new countries and cultures to what we are all about.

Without your support we would not be where we are today, so a BIG thank you from us! We’re looking forward to 2020 and all the exciting things on the cards.
